Overview

Cordyceps cicadae mycelium is a pharmaceutical-grade fungal product developed by the Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry (SIPI) for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Derived from the mycelium of the fungus *Isaria cicadae* (also known as *Cordyceps cicadae*), it is produced through large-scale submerged fermentation. The drug exerts its therapeutic effects primarily by inhibiting the TGF-beta1/Smad signaling pathway, which reduces renal fibrosis and slows disease progression. It also demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, helping to lower serum creatinine levels and reduce proteinuria. It has been evaluated in late-stage clinical trials in China as a modernized traditional medicine for renal protection.
