Overview
Core Assembly Inhibitor is a small molecule drug candidate being developed by Chromis Therapeutics for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection. It belongs to a class of agents known as capsid assembly modulators (CAMs). The drug specifically targets the HBV core protein (HBcAg), interfering with the critical step of viral capsid assembly. By disrupting the formation of the nucleocapsid, the inhibitor prevents the encapsidation of the viral pregenomic RNA (pgRNA) and the subsequent reverse transcription into viral DNA. This mechanism effectively blocks the production of new virions and reduces the viral load. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
