Core-g28v2 60mer mRNA vaccine (mRNA-1644v2-Core) is an investigational mRNA-based HIV vaccine candidate designed as a boost immunogen in a sequential vaccination strategy to induce broadly neutralizing antibody (bnAb) responses against HIV. The approach uses germline-targeting prime and boost immunogens to guide B-cell maturation toward bnAb development. The Core-g28v2 60mer is delivered via Moderna’s proprietary lipid nanoparticle-formulated mRNA platform. It was developed through collaboration between IAVI, Scripps Research, and Moderna, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other partners. The primary indication is prevention of HIV infection; it is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials in healthy adults[3][5][6][7].
