Overview

*Coriandrum sativum* is an annual herb in the Apiaceae family, commonly known as coriander, cilantro, or Chinese parsley. It is used globally as a culinary spice and traditional remedy. Various phytochemicals, including polyphenols, linalool, flavonoids, and vitamins, contribute to its bioactivity. It possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, antihyperlipidemic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal, and anxiolytic properties. Its mechanisms include modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, calcium channel blockade, cholinergic effects, scavenger receptor (SRB1) inhibition, enzymatic modulation, and chelation. It has been used historically and in emerging studies for gastrointestinal disturbances, pain, arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, infections, and for detoxification. Traditionally, *Coriandrum sativum* is used in Ayurveda, Unani, and folk medicine for conditions such as digestive complaints, insomnia, and rheumatism.
