Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Coriomycin is a pharmaceutical drug presented in tablet form, containing Colimycin (colistimethate sodium or colistin sulfate) as its active ingredient. Colimycin is an antibiotic belonging to the polymyxin class, primarily used as a last-resort treatment for multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections, such as those causing pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and skin infections. Its mechanism of action involves disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, leading to bacterial cell death. While effective against resistant bacteria, Colimycin is an older antibiotic known for potential serious side effects, including nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity. Coriomycin is currently being investigated by Shanghai Tonglian Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd and Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital for solid tumors with infection and orthopedic infections.
