Overview

Cornus officinalis extract is a botanical extract derived from the fruit of the *Cornus officinalis* plant, commonly known as dogwood or Shanzhuyu in traditional Chinese medicine. It contains a variety of bioactive compounds, including iridoid glycosides (such as morroniside and loganin), polysaccharides, and flavonoids. The extract is being investigated for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties. Recent research indicates it may stimulate the Keap1/Nrf2 antioxidant pathway and reduce the secretion of pro-inflammatory chemokines (e.g., CXCL1, CXCL10, CCL2), suggesting potential therapeutic utility in delaying the onset of Type 1 diabetes and managing Type 2 diabetes. It has also shown promise in providing hepatic, renal, and neuroprotection.
