Cornus officinalis total terpenes is a botanical drug candidate derived from the fruit of *Cornus officinalis* (Japanese cornel dogwood), a plant widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Developed by Suzhou Changzheng-Xinkai Pharmaceutical, this extract is a purified fraction primarily composed of iridoid glycosides, including loganin and morroniside. It is being investigated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drug is thought to exert its therapeutic effects by improving insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake, and protecting pancreatic beta cells from oxidative stress and apoptosis. Preclinical studies suggest that these effects are mediated through the activation of the AMPK signaling pathway and the modulation of glucose transporters.
