Overview
Cornus officinalis triterpenoid tablet is a botanical drug candidate developed by Suzhou Changzheng-Xinkai Pharmaceutical for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drug is a tablet formulation containing the total triterpenoid fraction extracted from the fruit of *Cornus officinalis* (Shan Zhu Yu), a plant widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. Triterpenoids from this species, including compounds like ursolic acid and oleanolic acid, have been investigated for their ability to regulate glucose metabolism and improve insulin sensitivity. Preclinical research suggests these effects may be mediated through the inhibition of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) and the activation of the AMPK signaling pathway. The drug has undergone Phase 1 clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers, intended to support further development for patients with early-stage, mild type 2 diabetes.
