Coronavirus-2-specific T cells (CoV-2-STs) is an experimental adoptive T-cell immunotherapy developed by the Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Unit and Department of Hematology Gene and Cell Therapy Center at George Papanicolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece. The therapy consists of ex vivo expanded, partially HLA-matched, allogeneic T cells derived from convalescent donors who have recovered from COVID-19. These cells are designed to specifically target SARS-CoV-2 antigens, providing a rapid cellular immune response in hospitalized high-risk patients with severe COVID-19. A randomized Phase 1/2 trial (NCT05447013) conducted during the Delta variant wave demonstrated that the therapy was safe and feasible, showing significantly improved recovery rates compared to standard of care alone. The results of this study were published in Nature Medicine in 2023.
