corosolic acid

Corosolic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid naturally occurring in various medicinal plants, most notably the Banaba leaf (*Lagerstroemia speciosa*) and Loquat (*Eriobotrya japonica*). It is primarily recognized for its antidiabetic properties, which it exerts through multiple mechanisms including the uncompetitive inhibition of α-glucosidase, which delays carbohydrate digestion and absorption. Additionally, corosolic acid has been shown to enhance glucose uptake by promoting the translocation of GLUT4 transporters to the cell membrane and may act as an insulin sensitizer by modulating insulin receptor activity. While widely available as a dietary supplement for blood sugar management, it has been investigated in clinical trials for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
