cortexolone

Cortexolone, also known as 11-deoxycortisol, is a naturally occurring glucocorticoid precursor with the chemical formula C21H30O4. It is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of cortisol and corticosterone. Cortexolone is less potent as a glucocorticoid than hydrocortisone and is recognized as the main precursor of cortisol in adrenal steroidogenesis. In humans, mutations leading to its accumulation are the basis of 11β-hydroxylase deficiency, a condition of congenital adrenal hyperplasia[4]. Cortexolone itself does not exhibit strong pharmacologic properties and is not known to act as a major receptor agonist or antagonist in its unmodified form.
