Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cortichlor is a topical ophthalmic combination medication containing the broad-spectrum antibiotic chloramphenicol and the corticosteroid hydrocortisone (as hydrocortisone acetate). Developed by Optho Pharma, it is formulated as an eye ointment or gel. Chloramphenicol acts by reversibly binding to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, thereby inhibiting peptidyl transferase and preventing bacterial protein synthesis. Hydrocortisone acts as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, suppressing the local inflammatory response, reducing capillary permeability, and alleviating symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching. Cortichlor is indicated for the treatment of ocular inflammation accompanied by secondary bacterial infection or risk of infection, including conditions such as conjunctivitis, blepharitis, uveitis, and post-surgical ocular inflammation.
