Overview

This therapeutic combination is a specialized mixture used for ultrasound-guided hydrodilatation in the treatment of shoulder adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder). Utilized in clinical research at Tanta University, the mixture typically consists of a corticosteroid, sterile saline (sodium chloride), and lidocaine. The corticosteroid component serves to reduce intra-articular inflammation and suppress the formation of new adhesions, while lidocaine acts as a local anesthetic to provide immediate pain relief during and after the procedure. The saline component provides the volume necessary for mechanical distension (hydrodilatation) of the contracted glenohumeral joint capsule. By physically stretching the capsule and delivering anti-inflammatory agents directly to the site of pathology, this combination therapy aims to improve range of motion and reduce chronic pain in patients who have failed conservative management.
