This combination therapy consists of a topical corticosteroid and salicylic acid, primarily used for the treatment of mild to moderate psoriasis. Corticosteroids function as anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, and immunosuppressive agents by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, which helps reduce the erythema and swelling associated with psoriatic plaques. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent, softening and facilitating the shedding of the stratum corneum. This action helps remove the characteristic scales of psoriasis and enhances the skin penetration of the co-administered corticosteroid. This specific combination was evaluated by Assiut University in a clinical trial (NCT03443323) comparing its efficacy against climatotherapy at the Red Sea (Hurghada) in patients with psoriasis.
