Overview

SNP-ACTH (1-39) Gel is a synthetic peptide drug that mimics the full-length adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH; 1-39 amino acids), derived from a porcine sequence and formulated as a subcutaneous injectable gel for sustained release. It acts as an agonist of the melanocortin receptor 2 (also known as the ACTH receptor), stimulating adrenal cortisol production and modulating immune responses. The drug is being developed by Cerium Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of primary membranous nephropathy (PMN), a rare autoimmune kidney disease characterized by proteinuria and podocyte injury. SNP-ACTH (1-39) Gel has received orphan drug designation from the FDA for PMN and is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials comparing its efficacy to rituximab in adults with PMN[1][2][3][4][5][6].
