Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cortiject (NOVA63035) is a preservative-free and solvent-free lipid emulsion formulation of a proprietary dexamethasone prodrug, developed by Santen SAS (following the acquisition of Novagali Pharma) for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME). The drug utilizes the proprietary Eyeject technology platform for delivery to the posterior segment of the eye via a single intravitreal injection. Once injected, the prodrug is de-esterified by retina-specific esterases, converting it into active dexamethasone at the site of action. This delivery system is designed to provide sustained release of the corticosteroid over a period of 6 to 9 months, aiming to reduce retinal inflammation and vascular leakage associated with diabetic retinopathy.
