Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cortin is a topical combination medication developed and marketed by Yash Pharma Laboratories, primarily used in the field of dermatology. It is formulated as a spray containing two active ingredients: hydrocortisone, a mild corticosteroid, and oxytetracycline, a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic. This combination is specifically indicated for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema, contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis, particularly when a secondary bacterial infection is present or likely to occur. Hydrocortisone functions as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, exerting anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by modulating gene expression to reduce the production of inflammatory mediators. Oxytetracycline provides antibacterial action by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and preventing bacterial growth. The spray formulation allows for easy application to affected skin areas, providing both symptomatic relief from inflammation and targeted antimicrobial therapy.
