corydalis bungeana

Corydalis bungeana is a perennial herb widely used in traditional Mongolian and Chinese medicine. The dried whole plant, known as Herba Corydalis Bungeanae, contains several bioactive alkaloids such as corydaline, 12-hydroxycorynoline, protopine, acetylcorynoline, and especially corynoline. It has been traditionally applied for its anti-inflammatory effects and to treat conditions like influenza and upper respiratory tract infections. Recent studies have demonstrated that extracts of Corydalis bungeana exhibit weight loss and lipid-lowering effects in animal models of obesity by regulating lipid and glucose metabolism[1]. Its anti-inflammatory mechanism involves suppression of the Nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) signaling pathway through inhibition of IκBα and p65 phosphorylation[6], reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β), activation of the Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/ARE pathway[5], and immune regulatory functions. The main active compounds are alkaloids (notably corynoline), steroids, and flavonoid glycosides[1][3][5].
