Overview

Corynan is an alkaloid isolated from *Petasites hybridus* (butterbur) that is being investigated for its antitumor and anti-migratory properties. Preclinical studies, primarily conducted by researchers at the National Medical Research Centre for Oncology in Russia, have demonstrated that corynan can induce apoptosis in HeLa cervical cancer cells by increasing the BAX/BCL-2 expression ratio. Furthermore, it has shown potent anti-migratory effects in A431 skin cancer cells, significantly reducing cell motility in wound healing assays. As a plant-derived secondary metabolite, corynan represents a potential lead compound for the development of new cancer therapies targeting cell survival and metastatic potential.
