Overview

Corynebacterium parvum is a heat-killed, inactivated preparation of the bacterium Corynebacterium parvum, used as an immunomodulatory agent. It has been studied for its ability to stimulate the immune system, particularly by enhancing monocyte and natural killer cell activity and promoting interferon gene activation. These effects result in increased resistance to viral infections and have been investigated for antiviral applications as well as adjuvant use in vaccines[1]. In oncology research, Corynebacterium parvum has demonstrated antitumor properties by stimulating host antitumor immune responses when added to cancer vaccines or administered directly; these effects are mediated through both innate (monocytes/NK cells) and adaptive (T cell-mediated) immunity[2][3][4][5]. Its mechanism is considered nonspecific immunostimulation rather than direct cytotoxicity.
