Overview

BAX602, commercially known as CoSeal, is a synthetic surgical sealant and adhesion prevention reagent developed by Baxter Healthcare. It is composed of two synthetic polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymers: a thiol-functionalized PEG and a nucleophilic-functionalized PEG. When mixed and applied via a spray or applicator, these components rapidly cross-link to form a biocompatible hydrogel that adheres to tissue surfaces. This hydrogel acts as a physical barrier to prevent the formation of post-operative adhesions by separating tissue surfaces during the critical healing period. BAX602 is primarily utilized in cardiac and vascular surgeries, including pediatric cardiac procedures and ventricular assist device (VAD) implantations, as well as in hepatic resections to reduce the incidence and severity of post-surgical tissue attachments.
