Overview

Cotadutide is an investigational dual agonist of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) and the glucagon receptor, developed for subcutaneous administration. It is a synthetic peptide designed to mimic the actions of both GLP-1 and glucagon, hormones involved in glucose and energy metabolism. Cotadutide lowers blood glucose by enhancing insulin secretion, delaying gastric emptying, and promoting weight loss. Additionally, it has shown benefits in reducing liver fat and improving markers of liver health in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and chronic kidney disease. The drug is currently being evaluated in phase 2 clinical trials for these indications[3][4][5][7].
