Cotton flower total flavonoids (TFG) is a botanical drug candidate extracted from the flowers of *Gossypium herbaceum* L. (Levant cotton), a plant traditionally used in Uighur medicine in the Xinjiang region of China. Developed by the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, TFG is primarily being investigated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of cognitive impairment. The extract is a complex mixture of flavonoid compounds, including quercetin, isoquercitrin, and rutin, which collectively provide neuroprotective benefits. Its mechanism of action is multi-targeted, involving the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) to enhance cholinergic signaling, the reduction of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque formation and aggregation, and the mitigation of oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. TFG has advanced into Phase 2 clinical trials in China, where it is being evaluated for its ability to improve memory and cognitive function in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.
