Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Counterpain COOL is a topical gel formulation containing 4% menthol, developed by Taisho Pharmaceutical Indonesia. It is primarily used as a cooling agent to manage thermal sensation and body temperature during physical exertion in hot environments. Menthol acts as a selective activator of the transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8) channel, which is responsible for the sensation of cold. By stimulating these cold-sensitive receptors on the skin, the gel provides a cooling effect without a physical drop in temperature, potentially improving thermal comfort and physical performance in athletes or individuals exposed to heat stress.
