Overview

Counterpain PXM is a topical analgesic gel developed by Taisho Pharmaceutical Indonesia for the management of musculoskeletal pain and inflammatory conditions. The formulation contains 0.5% piroxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) to block prostaglandin biosynthesis. This is combined with a blend of counterirritants, including methyl salicylate, menthol, and eugenol, which provide additional analgesic effects by inducing warming and cooling sensations that modulate pain signals. Counterpain PXM is indicated for conditions such as osteoarthritis, tendinitis, sprains, and low back pain, and is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to compare its efficacy and safety against piroxicam-only and diclofenac gels.
