COV-X is an experimental bispecific antibody developed by researchers at Scripps Research and its drug discovery division, Calibr, for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. It is engineered as a bivalent, IgG-like molecule that combines the neutralizing power of two distinct human monoclonal antibodies (derived from C121 and C135) into a single therapeutic agent. By simultaneously targeting two non-overlapping epitopes on the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, COV-X is designed to prevent the virus from interacting with the human ACE2 receptor. This dual-targeting approach aims to provide a high genetic barrier against viral escape, maintaining efficacy against emerging variants that might otherwise evade single-antibody treatments. The molecule was developed to offer the potency of an antibody cocktail in a single, more easily manufactured product.
