Overview

COV01 is a small molecule inducer of extra-renal 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 1-alpha-hydroxylase (CYP27B1) expression. It is being developed for the treatment of age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia). By upregulating CYP27B1 expression in muscle tissue, COV01 promotes myotube formation, enhances mitochondrial biogenesis, and improves muscle strength. When combined with 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3), COV01 exhibits a synergistic effect, further enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and myotube formation, making it a potential therapeutic candidate for the clinical management of sarcopenia.
