Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CoV2-OGEN1 is an orally administered, protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed to induce mucosal and systemic immunity against SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine utilizes a novel oral delivery platform, aiming to generate immune responses at the initial site of infection (the mucous membranes), which may offer advantages in preventing viral entry and transmission. Preclinical studies demonstrated that 100% of mice receiving CoV2-OGEN1 produced both mucosal and serum antibody titers against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The vaccine is being developed by VaxForm in partnership with US Specialty Formulations (USSF). As of 2024, it has entered Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety in healthy subjects. Its oral administration route offers potential benefits for self-administration, stockpiling, manufacturing scalability, storage, and distribution[2][3][4][7].
