Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**CovaGuard** is an over-the-counter topical antiseptic sanitizer product developed by Covalon Technologies for personal hand hygiene and application to items such as protective masks and other surfaces. Its active pharmaceutical ingredient is **benzalkonium chloride 0.13% w/w**, a quaternary ammonium small-molecule antimicrobial that disrupts microbial lipid membranes and inactivates susceptible bacteria and enveloped viruses on contact. The formulation was positioned during the COVID-19 pandemic as a long-lasting sanitizer with a proprietary lipid-barrier technology intended to provide extended antimicrobial protection for up to 24 hours. It is marketed in spray and foam presentations and is regulated as an OTC topical antiseptic product in the United States and Canada.
