Overview

Covalzin is a veterinary pharmaceutical preparation developed by Kureha Corporation for the treatment of chronic renal failure (CKD) in cats and other domestic pets. The active ingredient is a spherical adsorbent charcoal (activated charcoal) designed to adsorb uremic toxins, such as indoxyl sulfate and other metabolic waste products, in the gastrointestinal tract. By binding these toxins and facilitating their excretion through feces, Covalzin reduces systemic toxin levels and inhibits the development of uremia symptoms. It is administered orally and serves as the veterinary counterpart to Kremezin, Kureha's approved product for human chronic kidney disease.
