Covant Therapeutics is developing an oral small molecule allosteric modulator of the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn). This drug candidate is designed to inhibit the recycling of immunoglobulin G (IgG) by FcRn, which leads to a reduction in the levels of circulating pathogenic IgG antibodies. It is being developed for the treatment of various IgG-mediated autoimmune diseases, including generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). As an oral therapy, it is intended to provide a more accessible and convenient alternative to current injectable FcRn-targeting biologics. The program is currently in the hit-to-lead preclinical stage of development.
