Overview

Covexin is a multivalent veterinary vaccine product line developed by Merck Animal Health for the prevention of clostridial diseases in cattle and sheep. As a bacterin-toxoid vaccine, it contains inactivated cultures of Clostridium bacteria and their respective toxoids. It is specifically formulated to provide broad-spectrum protection against several highly pathogenic species, including Clostridium chauvoei, C. septicum, C. novyi Type B, C. haemolyticum, C. tetani, and C. perfringens Types C and D. The vaccine is administered via subcutaneous or intramuscular injection to prevent life-threatening conditions such as blackleg, tetanus, malignant edema, and enterotoxemia (overeating disease) by inducing active immunity against the bacteria and their lethal toxins.
