Overview

COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) is a biologic therapy derived from the blood of individuals who have recovered from a SARS-CoV-2 infection. This specific investigational product was utilized in the CoronaVirus Inactivating Plasma (CoVIP) study, a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT04524507) led by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The plasma contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies that specifically target the SARS-CoV-2 virus, binding to viral surface proteins to prevent host cell entry and facilitate viral clearance. The UNC study was designed to compare the efficacy and safety of standard-titer versus high-titer (neutralizing antibody titers >1:640) plasma in hospitalized patients with early-stage COVID-19 symptoms.
