COVID-19 convalescent plasma developed by the University of Pennsylvania is a biologic therapy consisting of plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. This passive immunotherapy modality involves transfusing plasma containing high levels of neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 into infected patients to neutralize the virus. The therapy was evaluated in a Phase 1, open-label, single-arm study (PENN-CCP-01) specifically targeting severely ill, mechanically ventilated adults with COVID-19 pneumonia.
