COVID-19 convalescent plasma (DRK-Blutspendedienst Baden-Wurttemberg-Hessen) is a biological therapeutic developed for the treatment of COVID-19 in clinically vulnerable and immunocompromised patients. It consists of high-titre convalescent plasma obtained from 'superimmunised' donors—individuals who have both recovered from a SARS-CoV-2 infection and received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This plasma contains a high concentration of polyclonal neutralizing antibodies (with a minimum titre of 1:640 against variants such as Delta or Omicron) that target the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The therapy is administered intravenously within seven days of symptom onset to reduce the risk of hospitalization or death by neutralizing the virus and preventing its spread within the host.
