COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) is a biologic therapy developed and studied by the Ministry of Health, Kuwait, for the treatment of patients with moderate to severe COVID-19. It consists of plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection, which contains high titers of polyclonal neutralizing antibodies. These antibodies primarily target the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and its receptor-binding domain (RBD), preventing the virus from entering host cells. Beyond direct viral neutralization, CCP also facilitates Fc-dependent immune functions, including antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), complement activation, and phagocytosis. Clinical research conducted in Kuwaiti tertiary hospitals demonstrated that CCP administration was associated with improved clinical outcomes, increased oxygen saturation, and the normalization of inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein (CRP) and lymphocyte counts.
