COVID‑19 vaccine (Vero cell), inactivated, refers to a class of vaccines developed using whole SARS-CoV‑2 virus that has been grown in Vero cells and then chemically inactivated so it cannot cause disease. The main mechanism is to induce an immune response by presenting the body with the entire killed virus, prompting production of neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV‑2. These vaccines are adjuvanted with aluminum hydroxide to enhance immunogenicity. They are indicated for active immunization to prevent COVID‑19 caused by SARS-CoV‑2, and have been shown in clinical trials to reduce symptomatic infection and severe outcomes[1][4][7]. Multiple products exist under this name, most notably those developed by Sinopharm’s Beijing Institute of Biological Products (“COVILO”, also known as BBIBP-CorV) and Sinovac (“CoronaVac”). Both have received emergency or conditional approval globally.
