Overview

COVIDTRAP (STI-4398) is a recombinant ACE2-Fc fusion protein developed by Sorrento Therapeutics as a potential therapeutic and prophylactic treatment for COVID-19. It functions as a soluble decoy receptor that mimics the human Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2), which is the primary entry point used by the SARS-CoV-2 virus to infect host cells. By binding with high affinity to the spike protein of the virus, COVIDTRAP neutralizes the pathogen and prevents it from attaching to cellular receptors, thereby blocking viral entry and replication. Preclinical in vitro testing conducted at the Galveston National Laboratory demonstrated that COVIDTRAP could completely inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection in VERO/E6 cell models.
