Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Coxsackievirus B1-6 multivalent vaccine (also known as the hexavalent CVB vaccine) is an investigational, formalin-inactivated, whole-virus vaccine designed to target all six serotypes of Coxsackievirus B (CVB1 to CVB6). Developed by Vactech in collaboration with researchers at Tampere University and Karolinska Institutet, the vaccine is intended to prevent acute CVB infections and their associated chronic complications, particularly type 1 diabetes (T1D), celiac disease, and myocarditis. In preclinical studies, the vaccine demonstrated high immunogenicity, inducing strong neutralizing antibody responses against all six serotypes in mice and non-human primates, and protected against virus-induced diabetes and myocarditis without accelerating autoimmune diabetes onset in NOD mice. A related pentavalent clinical candidate, PRV-101 (targeting CVB1-5), has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials.
