Overview

COYA-301 is a proprietary investigational biologic therapy developed by Coya Therapeutics. It is a low-dose formulation of recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2) designed for subcutaneous administration. The drug’s primary mechanism is to enhance the function and expand the number of regulatory T cells (Tregs), which play a critical role in suppressing inflammation and maintaining immune homeostasis. By increasing Treg numbers and function, COYA-301 aims to reduce neuroinflammation and systemic inflammation implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. Clinical studies have shown that treatment with COYA 301 increases Treg population/function, decreases pro-inflammatory cytokines/chemokines, lowers biomarkers of inflammation/oxidative stress, and may halt cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s patients[1][5][6][7]. The drug serves as a backbone immunomodulatory agent for potential combination therapies targeting multiple inflammatory pathways[3][4].
