COYA-302 is an investigational, proprietary biologic combination therapy developed by Coya Therapeutics for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, primarily amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia. It consists of two components: a proprietary low dose of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and a fusion protein called CTLA4-Ig (cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 immunoglobulin), which is also known as abatacept in other contexts. The dual mechanism aims to enhance the anti-inflammatory function of regulatory T cells (Tregs) via IL-2 receptor agonism while suppressing inflammation produced by activated monocytes, macrophages, and effector T cells through CTLA4 modulation. This approach is designed to both boost immune regulation and reduce pro-inflammatory activity in neurodegenerative disease settings. Clinical studies have shown that COYA-302 can slow disease progression in ALS patients by increasing Treg function and reducing biomarkers associated with inflammation and oxidative stress[1][3][4][5][9].
