Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CP006 is a small molecule, selective phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor being developed by Shanghai New Huanghe Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Shanghai Pharmaceuticals, for the treatment of respiratory inflammatory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). PDE4 is a key enzyme responsible for the degradation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in inflammatory cells; its inhibition leads to increased intracellular cAMP levels, which in turn suppresses the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators. CP006 is formulated for inhalation, allowing for localized anti-inflammatory effects within the airways while minimizing the systemic side effects often associated with oral PDE4 inhibitors. It is classified as a Class 1 innovative drug in China and has progressed into Phase 2 clinical trials for asthma.
