Overview
CP01-R01 is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) drug candidate being developed by Curacle for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The product consists of CU01, which is Curacle's proprietary modified-release formulation of the anti-fibrotic agent tranilast, combined with an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), likely losartan. Tranilast acts by inhibiting the signaling and production of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), a central mediator of renal fibrosis and inflammation. The ARB component provides complementary blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), which is the standard of care for managing renal hemodynamics and hypertension in CKD patients. By simultaneously targeting these two distinct pathological pathways, CP01-R01 is intended to provide synergistic renal protection and slow the progression of kidney failure more effectively than monotherapy. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
