Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CP116 is a long-acting injectable formulation of glatiramer acetate under development by Consegna Pharma for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Utilizing a proprietary delivery technology, CP116 is designed to provide a 14-day sustained release of the active ingredient, potentially reducing the injection frequency compared to standard glatiramer acetate products. Glatiramer acetate is a mixture of synthetic polypeptides composed of four amino acids (L-glutamic acid, L-alanine, L-tyrosine, and L-lysine) that acts as an immunomodulator. It is thought to shift the population of T cells from pro-inflammatory Th1 cells to regulatory Th2 cells that cross the blood-brain barrier and suppress the inflammatory response against myelin basic protein.
