Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CPF-AM1 (caerulein precursor fragment-AM1) is a cationic, amphipathic alpha-helical host-defense peptide originally isolated from the norepinephrine-stimulated skin secretions of the African volcano clawed frog (*Xenopus amieti*). It exhibits dual insulinotropic and incretinotropic activities, directly stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta-cells via membrane depolarization, intracellular calcium mobilization, and cAMP/protein kinase C pathway activation, while also promoting glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) release from intestinal L-cells. Additionally, CPF-AM1 possesses broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, particularly against oral and respiratory pathogens, and binds to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to neutralize endotoxins. It is being investigated preclinically for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
