Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CpG 1018-adjuvanted Pandemic Influenza (H5N1) is a clinical-stage vaccine candidate developed by Dynavax Technologies for the prevention of H5N1 avian influenza. The vaccine utilizes Dynavax's proprietary CpG 1018 adjuvant, a synthetic 22-mer oligonucleotide that acts as a Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) agonist. By stimulating TLR9, the adjuvant enhances the Th1-biased immune response, which is intended to improve the immunogenicity of the H5N1 antigen. This approach potentially allows for dose-sparing—a critical requirement for pandemic response—and may provide broader, more durable protection against drifting pandemic strains. The program is currently in Phase 2 clinical development as part of pandemic preparedness efforts.
