Overview

CpG-B is a synthetic oligodeoxynucleotide containing unmethylated CpG motifs, designed as a potent stimulator of B cells through activation of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9)[1][3]. It induces proliferation, survival, cytokine secretion, and immunoglobulin production in B cells and stimulates plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC) to secrete low levels of interferon-alpha. CpG-B is primarily investigated as an immunostimulatory adjuvant for vaccines, especially in immunocompromised individuals (such as HIV-infected patients) where it normalizes and enhances antibody responses[1]. CpG-B is distinct from CpG-A (which mainly induces IFN-alpha from pDC but does not activate B cells) and CpG-C (which combines both effects)[1][3]. CpG-B has been studied for inclusion in HBV vaccine formulations and to enhance overall humoral and cell-mediated immunity[1].
