Overview

This combination therapy consists of three agents: - **CPG10101 (ACTILON)** is a synthetic CpG-containing oligodeoxynucleotide and agonist of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), intended as an immunomodulator and antiviral agent for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus infection. It acts by stimulating innate immune responses, inducing interferons and cytokines consistent with TLR9 activation[1][3]. - **Peginterferon alfa-2b** is a pegylated form of recombinant interferon alpha-2b, classified as a biologic response modifier. It stimulates the innate antiviral response by binding to interferon alpha receptors and activating the JAK/STAT signaling pathway, resulting in decreased HCV replication and immunomodulation[2][4][6]. - **Ribavirin** is a nucleoside analog with antiviral activity commonly used in combination with interferons for chronic hepatitis C therapy. This triple combination was studied in relapsed or non-responder HCV patients, specifically those with genotype 1, aiming to improve viral clearance by combining immunostimulatory and direct antiviral mechanisms[3][5].
