Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CPI-005 is a next-generation MRI contrast agent currently in preclinical development by Curadel. It is designed as a zwitterionic chelator, a structural approach intended to optimize the pharmacokinetic and safety profile of contrast media. Zwitterionic molecules carry both positive and negative charges but are net neutral, which can lead to reduced non-specific binding to proteins and tissues, faster renal clearance, and a lower risk of long-term metal retention compared to traditional gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs). The agent is being developed for general MRI contrast imaging applications, with proof-of-concept studies underway.
