Overview

CPP-115 is an experimental small molecule drug developed as a potent and selective inhibitor of gamma aminobutyric acid aminotransferase (GABA aminotransferase or GABA-T). By inhibiting this enzyme, CPP-115 increases brain levels of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. It is a structural analogue of vigabatrin but has been shown in preclinical studies to be over 100 times more potent with potentially fewer side effects. The drug is being investigated for several neurological and psychiatric disorders including infantile spasms (West syndrome), refractory epilepsies, Tourette syndrome, and cocaine addiction. Orphan drug status has been granted by the FDA for infantile spasms and by the European Commission for West syndrome[1][4][7][8].
